I’m prepping for the CFA Level 1 exam next year. But I’ve noticed lots of folks talking about getting the FRM certification too. This got me thinking.
If the CFA is such a big deal in finance, especially for investment analysis and portfolio management, what’s the point of doing FRM as well? Doesn’t the CFA already cover quite a bit about risk management?
Sure, FRM is more focused on risk. But can’t you still work in risk-related jobs with just a CFA? Is the FRM just about looking better on paper or standing out from the crowd?
I’d really like to hear from people who’ve done both or plan to. What made you decide to go for the FRM too? Is it worth the extra effort and time?
Anyone care to share their thoughts on this? It would really help me figure out my own career path in finance.
As someone who’s been through both programs, I can tell you they serve different purposes. While the CFA provides a comprehensive foundation in finance, the FRM is specifically tailored for risk management professionals. The depth of risk-related content in the FRM far exceeds what’s covered in the CFA curriculum.
If you’re eyeing a career in risk management, particularly in areas like market risk, credit risk, or operational risk, the FRM can be invaluable. It’s recognized globally in the risk management field and can give you a significant edge in specialized roles.
That said, the decision to pursue both certifications should align with your career aspirations. If you’re aiming for a broader finance role with some risk management aspects, the CFA might suffice. But if you’re passionate about risk management and want to specialize, the FRM is definitely worth considering.
Ultimately, it’s about career focus and the specific knowledge you need for your desired path in finance.
I’m actually in a similar boat - just finished my CFA and now eyeing the FRM. Gotta say, it’s got me curious too!
You know what I’ve been wondering? How much overlap is there really between CFA and FRM in day-to-day work? Like, do FRM holders tackle different projects or have a unique perspective that CFA folks don’t?
And here’s a wild thought - could having both actually open up some cool hybrid roles we haven’t even considered?
What about you? Any specific area of risk that’s caught your eye? Market risk, credit risk, something else entirely?
BTW, have you chatted with any risk managers at work or in your network? Might be worth picking their brains about how they use FRM knowledge on the job.
Just brainstorming here, but I’m super interested to hear what you end up deciding! Keep us posted, yeah!
hey, i’ve got both CFA and FRM. honestly, the FRM dives way deeper into risk stuff. if ur aiming for risk management roles, it’s a game-changer. CFA’s broad, but FRM’s laser-focused on risk. depends on ur career goals tho. both certifications open diff doors. just my 2 cents!
