Which Digital Literacy abilities would you like your students to possess?

As a teacher at a charter school, I’ve been discussing the possibility of introducing a digital literacy course with the CEO, who supports the initiative. However, I need to prepare a proposal for the board. I have discovered a foundational curriculum, but I believe it requires further development. I plan to distribute a needs assessment to my peers to gather their insights on what skills they believe their students should enhance. I would appreciate hearing from fellow educators on this topic. Thank you in advance!

Hey there SwimmingDolphin! First off, kudos to you for taking the initiative to push forward a digital literacy course, that’s super important! Thinking about digital literacy, I’m really curious, how do you plan on blending those skills with what students are already learning?

It’s so fascinating how digital literacy covers a wide range of skills, from basic ones like typing and online communication, to more advanced stuff like digital citizenship and online safety. Have you considered integrating subjects like coding or even digital storytelling, where they can apply their knowledge creatively?

I think another interesting aspect could be teaching students how to critically evaluate information online. With so much info out there, it seems crucial for them to identify credible sources. How do you think students’ learning experiences could change once they are equipped with these skills?

Can’t wait to see where this goes and how it all turns out! Keep us updated.
