Which academic program did you regret not pursuing?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking about life choices lately, and I’m curious about your educational paths. What’s that one college major or program you wish you had followed through with, but didn’t because of personal circumstances?

Maybe it was a dream course you had to give up for financial reasons, or a field of study you were passionate about but couldn’t pursue due to family obligations. I’m really interested in hearing your stories and the ‘what ifs’ that still linger in your mind.

Did any of you ever consider going back to take up that missed opportunity? Or have you found peace with the path you ultimately chose?

Let’s share our experiences and maybe learn from each other’s journeys!

Fascinating question. I can relate to that feeling of educational ‘what ifs’. For me, it was marine biology. I’ve always been captivated by the ocean and its mysteries, but I opted for a more conventional business track instead.

Looking back, I sometimes wonder how different life would be if I’d pursued my passion for marine ecosystems. The thought of conducting research on coral reefs or studying deep-sea creatures still excites me. However, I’ve come to appreciate how my business background has opened up unexpected opportunities.

I’ve found ways to merge my interests by volunteering for ocean conservation efforts and supporting marine research initiatives through my company. It’s not quite the same as being a marine biologist, but it allows me to contribute to the field I love while utilizing my professional skills.

For those still contemplating a change, I’d say it’s never too late to incorporate your passions into your life, even if it’s not your primary career.

man, i feel ya on this one. for me, it was computer sciece; always loved tech but the math freaked me out.

i ended up in marketing. sometimes i wonder if i missed my chanse to be the nxt zuckerberg. whadya gonna do?

Oh man, this question hits close to home! I’ve always had a fascination with archaeology, but never pursued it seriously. Sometimes I catch myself daydreaming about digging up ancient artifacts and piecing together the stories of lost civilizations.

But life had other plans, you know? I ended up going the more ‘practical’ route with a business degree. Don’t get me wrong, it’s served me well, but there’s still that little voice wondering ‘what if?’

Has anyone here actually studied archaeology? What’s it really like? Is it as Indiana Jones-esque as my imagination makes it out to be? :joy:

And hey, OP, what about you? Is there a particular field you’re wishing you’d explored more? Sometimes I think it’s never too late to at least dabble in our passions, even if we can’t make a full career switch. Any thoughts on that?
