Struggling with MBA math after engineering degree

Hey everyone,

I’m feeling a bit lost in my MBA math course. It’s weird because I thought I’d breeze through it after finishing my engineering degree. But it’s not as easy as I expected.

The concepts seem different, and I’m not sure how to approach the problems. Has anyone else been in this situation? How did you handle the transition from engineering math to business math?

I’d really appreciate any advice or study tips. Maybe there are some resources I’m missing? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey there! I totally get where you’re coming from. I made the switch from engineering to an MBA too, and man, it was a bit of a mind-bender at first!

You know what really helped me? Changing how I looked at the problems. In engineering, we’re all about the nitty-gritty details, right? But in MBA math, it’s more about seeing the big picture and how it affects business decisions.

Have you tried looking at some real company reports or case studies? That stuff is gold! It helps you see how all these numbers actually matter in the real world. And don’t even get me started on Excel - that thing is gonna be your new best friend.

Oh, and here’s a thought - why not team up with some of your classmates who don’t have an engineering background? You might be surprised how much you can learn from each other. They might help you see things from a different angle, and you can help them with some of the trickier calculations.

Hang in there, okay? It’s a bit of a learning curve, but I bet you’ll start seeing connections soon. And hey, if you ever want to chat more about it, I’m all ears. We engineering folks gotta stick together, right?

What’s been the toughest part for you so far? I’m curious to hear more about your experience!

yo, i feel ya. i made the switch from engineering to mba too and it was tough at first. the key is to think business, not just numbers. try lookin at case studies and real company data. it helps connect the math to actual business decisions. also, excel is ur new bff – learn it well. don’t stress, you’ll get there!

As someone who made the transition from engineering to an MBA, I can relate to your struggle. The key difference I found was the focus on practical application rather than theoretical concepts. In engineering, we often dealt with abstract problems, but MBA math is all about real-world business scenarios.

What helped me was to approach each problem by first understanding its business context. Instead of jumping straight into calculations, I’d ask myself, ‘How does this apply to a real company?’ This shift in mindset made a huge difference.

I’d recommend getting your hands on some business case studies. They’re great for seeing how math is used in actual decision-making. Also, don’t underestimate the power of Excel – it’s a staple in business and can help you visualize data in ways that make MBA math click.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to reach out to your professors or classmates. Sometimes, discussing a problem can give you new perspectives you hadn’t considered. Keep at it – the adjustment takes time, but you’ll get there!
