Overseeing Technology Usage in Classrooms

Issue: Managing student technology is frustrating as they quickly mask off-task behavior. Concern: Simply blocking sites isn’t sufficient—could an allow-list approach be more effective?

Hey everyone! I’ve been mulling over the allow-list idea and it really makes sense in some ways. It feels like instead of just shutting things down, we’re inviting students to have a bit more responsibility by showing them what’s acceptable. But here’s a thought: could this approach maybe spark more curiosity in students to explore the ‘forbidden’ side of things? I wonder if combining this with some discussions or lessons about digital citizenship might really help them understand not just what they can do, but why those limits exist. Has anyone tried blending clear tech guidelines with active learning about online behavior? I’d love to hear about your experiences or any creative workarounds you’ve come up with!
