Issues loading Swirl courses on Android R Console Premium

Trouble with Swirl on Android R Console Premium

I’m having a hard time getting Swirl courses to work on my Android R Console Premium app. Every time I try to load a course, it fails. Here’s what happens:

  1. I start by running library(swirl)
  2. Then I type swirl()
  3. I pick the first option for R Programming basics
  4. But then I get an error saying it can’t fetch the course and asks if I’m connected to the internet (which I am)

I tried the manual installation option too, but that gave me another error about not finding Firefox.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a way to get Swirl working on Android? I’m really eager to start learning R, but this roadblock is frustrating. Any help would be awesome!

hey brilliantcoder23, sry to hear ur struggling. i had similar probs w/ swirl on android. tbh, mobile R can be a pain. have u considered using a cloud-based R environment like RStudio Cloud? it works great on mobile browsers and u dont need to install anything. might be worth a shot if ur rly keen on learning R on the go. good luck!

I’ve encountered similar issues with Swirl on mobile platforms. The Android R Console Premium app, while useful, has limitations when it comes to certain packages like Swirl.

A workaround I’ve found effective is to use a remote desktop application to access a computer running R. This way, you can use the full R environment on your Android device without compatibility issues.

Alternatively, consider using web-based R learning platforms that are mobile-friendly. DataCamp and Coursera offer excellent R courses that work well on Android browsers.

If you’re set on using Swirl, you might need to switch to a desktop or laptop for the best experience. The interactive nature of Swirl courses often requires a more robust R environment than what’s currently available on Android.

Hey there, BrilliantCoder23! :thinking:

I haven’t personally used Swirl on Android, but your situation sounds pretty frustrating. Have you tried reaching out to the app developers? They might have some insider knowledge about compatibility issues with Swirl.

In the meantime, I’m curious - what made you choose to learn R on your Android device? Are you always on the go, or is it just more convenient than using a computer?

If you’re open to alternatives, have you considered other R learning resources that might work better on mobile? There are some great interactive websites and apps out there designed specifically for learning R on the go.

Keep us posted on what you find out! I’m sure other Android R users would love to know if you discover a solution. Good luck with your R journey! :four_leaf_clover:
