Developing a four-module course with videos, slides, quizzes, and journal tasks—am I overinvesting 16 hours per module, or is this time allocation reasonable?
Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking about the 16-hour per module approach and it seems pretty reasonable when you break it down. I mean, there’s a ton of different media and interactivity involved – from videos to journals – and each of those really needs some attention to detail. In my experience, the extra time can make all the difference in ensuring the content is engaging and accessible for the learners. I’m curious though, has anyone figured out if certain module sections could be trimmed down without sacrificing quality? Or maybe some parts might benefit from even more time investment? I’ve found that balancing thoroughness with efficiency can be kind of an art. What do you all think? Any tips on optimizing the process?
From my experience designing course modules, dedicating 16 hours per module seems justified, especially when the course includes multiple types of content like videos, slides, quizzes, and reflective tasks. When I developed my own modules, I found that this amount of time allowed for thoughtful integration of interactive elements and provided room for revisions based on early feedback. The key is to ensure that the time spent translates into quality course material, so if each hour is well utilized, it is a reasonable allocation rather than an overinvestment.
