Hey everyone,
I’m in a bit of a pickle. My college plans fell through because of money issues. Now I’m thinking about trying out online courses, like the ones offered by big tech companies.
The thing is, my family’s giving me mixed signals. Mom says these courses are useless, but my uncle actually took one and seemed to like it.
I’m really curious to hear from you all. Has anyone taken these courses? Did they help you land a job or enhance your skills? I’m trying to figure out if online courses are worth the time and investment.
Also, if you have recommendations on affordable online platforms that offer practical skills, please share. Thanks in advance for any advice!
i took a few online courses and they were pretty good. learned some coding basics and got a certificate. helped me get an internship. but you gotta be motivated, cuz nobody’s pushing you. udemy and coursera have good stuff. just pick somethin you’re interested in and go for it!
I’ve been through a similar situation, and online courses can definitely be valuable. I completed several on Coursera and found them quite rigorous. The key is choosing courses aligned with your career goals and from reputable institutions.
One major advantage is flexibility - you can learn at your own pace while working part-time. However, self-discipline is crucial. Without set class times, it’s easy to fall behind.
In terms of employability, I’ve found that adding relevant online certifications to my resume has helped me stand out to employers. Some even led to networking opportunities with instructors and fellow students.
That said, online learning isn’t for everyone. It requires strong time management and self-motivation. Consider starting with a free course to see if the format suits you before investing in paid options.
Ultimately, the value depends on your field and how you leverage the skills you gain. Research industry trends and in-demand skills to make informed choices about which courses to pursue.
Hey Melody_Cheerful!
I totally get where you’re coming from. Been there, done that with the college money struggles.
Online courses can be a real game-changer, but it really depends on what you’re looking for. Have you thought about what kind of skills you want to develop? Tech stuff, creative fields, business know-how?
I’ve dabbled in a few online platforms myself, and let me tell you, some are way better than others. Ever checked out edX? They’ve got some free courses from top universities. Pretty cool if you ask me.
But here’s the million-dollar question: what’s your end goal? Are you looking to beef up your resume, start a new career, or just learn for fun?
Oh, and don’t forget to look into industry-specific certifications. Sometimes those can be golden tickets in certain fields.
Anyone else here have experience with lesser-known but awesome online learning platforms? I’m always on the lookout for new ones to try!
