Are there any Lua-based programming courses in OpenCourseWare?

Hey everyone! I’m really into Lua and want to improve my coding skills. I’ve been checking out OpenCourseWare stuff, but it’s mostly Python, Java, and Lisp. Does anyone know if there are any university courses on OCW that use Lua as the main language? I’m looking for courses that cover programming basics or general coding methods. It would be awesome to find some Lua-focused content to learn from. Thanks for any help you can give!

I’ve been down this road before, searching for Lua courses in OpenCourseWare. Unfortunately, there’s a real scarcity of Lua-specific content on OCW platforms, as most universities opt for more mainstream languages. That said, I’ve found that learning general programming through OCW courses, such as MIT’s ‘Introduction to Computer Science and Programming’, provides a strong foundation that can be applied to Lua. For more targeted resources, the official Lua documentation and ‘Programming in Lua’ by Roberto Ierusalimschy are highly recommended. Stick with the basics, and you’ll be able to transfer those skills effectively to Lua.

Hey there, MaxRock56!

I totally get your frustration with finding Lua courses on OCW. It’s like searching for a needle in a haystack, right?

Have you thought about taking a general programming course and applying those concepts to Lua? That could be a cool way to level up your skills! :rocket:

I’m curious, what got you into Lua in the first place? Are you working on any specific projects? Maybe we could brainstorm some alternative learning methods that suit your goals.

Oh, and have you checked out any Lua forums or Discord channels? Sometimes the community can be a goldmine of resources and tips. What do you think about learning in a more social setting?

Keep us posted on your Lua journey! It’d be awesome to hear about your progress and any cool stuff you create along the way.

yo, i feel ur pain! OCW’s pretty dry for Lua stuff. but don’t sweat it - grab a general programming course and apply it to Lua. there’s tons of other resources out there too, like youtube vids and forums. keep at it, you’ll get there!
