Are online course certifications valuable to employers in tech?

Hey everyone,

I just wrapped up a Coursera course on Neural Networks and Deep Learning. I’m pretty excited about it and even shared the certificate on LinkedIn.

Now I’m wondering if I should add this to my CV too. What do you think?

Some background: I’ve got a BS in Computer Science and I’m currently working as an infrastructure engineer (mix of DevOps and Python). My goal is to move into a Machine Learning engineer role.

Will this certification help me stand out? Or are employers not really interested in these online courses? I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially if you’ve been in a similar situation or if you’re involved in hiring for ML positions.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hey Nate_45Guitar! Congrats on finishing that Neural Networks course! :tada:

As someone who’s been on both sides of the hiring process, I can say it’s not just about the cert itself, but how you use it. Have you thought about creating a small project using what you learned? That could really make you stand out!

I’m curious - what made you choose that specific course? And how do you think it ties into your current DevOps experience?

Adding it to your CV could be a good move, especially if you can highlight specific skills you gained. But I’d love to hear more about your transition plan. Have you looked into any ML internships or talked to your current company about shadowing opportunities?

Keep us posted on your journey! It’s exciting to see people diving into ML.
