Hi everyone,
I’m feeling pretty discouraged right now. I graduated from a small college with a B.Com degree last year. During my studies, I got excited about the CFA program after seeing some videos online. I thought it would be my ticket to a great finance career.
I managed to pass Level 1 while still in school and recently cleared Level 2. But now I’m hitting a wall trying to find work in finance. I’ve sent out tons of applications and had a few interviews, but nothing’s panned out.
I’ve tried to build up my skills with financial modeling and Excel, but it doesn’t seem to be enough. My only work experience is a short graphic design internship I took after graduating.
Now I’m questioning if going for the CFA was worth it. My family’s getting frustrated about the money spent, and I’m not sure what to do next. Some people suggest an MBA, but that’s not financially possible right now.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Any advice on breaking into finance without connections or a top-tier degree? I’m starting to feel like the CFA isn’t as valuable as I thought without the right background.
Thanks for any insights!
Hey there! I totally get where you’re coming from. The finance world can be a tough nut to crack, especially when you’re just starting out.
Have you thought about looking into fintech companies? They’re always on the hunt for fresh talent with a solid financial background. Your CFA knowledge could be a real asset there, even without tons of experience.
Also, how’s your programming game? If you’ve got some basic coding skills (or are willing to learn), that could open up a whole new world of opportunities. Maybe try your hand at some Python or R courses online?
Oh, and don’t sell yourself short on that graphic design internship! Creative skills can be a huge plus in finance, especially when it comes to data visualization and presentation.
Hang in there, keep pushing, and don’t be afraid to think outside the box. The right opportunity might come from an unexpected place. Anyone else here have experience with non-traditional finance roles?
I can relate to your frustration. The CFA is valuable, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle. Have you considered expanding your job search beyond traditional finance roles? Many companies in tech, healthcare, and other industries need financial expertise. You might find opportunities there to apply your skills and build experience.
Also, don’t underestimate the power of informational interviews. Reach out to professionals in roles you’re interested in and ask to chat about their career paths. This can provide valuable insights and potentially lead to job opportunities.
Lastly, consider volunteering for finance-related projects at local non-profits. It’s a great way to gain practical experience and expand your network. Keep refining your resume and interview skills, and stay persistent. Breaking into finance can be tough, but with your qualifications, it’s just a matter of time and strategy.
hey dont give up! i was in a similar boat after passing level 2. wat helped me was networking like crazy on linkedin. reach out to alumni, join finance groups, and attend industry events. also, consider internships or entry-level roles at smaller firms to get ur foot in the door. keep at it and somthing will click!
