Recent curriculum changes reveal a concerning trend toward limited academic exposure in higher education. During my time at college, courses outside the core curriculum substantially enriched my critical thinking and provided perspectives that went beyond textbook knowledge. Reducing general education classes might streamline degree requirements, but it poses the risk of narrowing students’ educational experiences. A well-rounded education should not only prepare students for specific careers but also foster an understanding of diverse viewpoints. Thus, it is crucial for policymakers to balance state mandates with the benefits of a broad academic curriculum that nurtures intellectual growth.
