Duolingo's Update Has Rendered the App Nearly Unusable for Free Users

After a 653-day streak, Duolingo’s update—limiting heart-based lessons, showing constant ads, and cutting rewards—has ruined the experience for free users. Non-paying learners now suffer.

The recent changes have made my Duolingo experience less fluid and enjoyable. I noticed that the excessive ads and strict limitations on accessing lessons are affecting the overall learning process significantly. Personally, I feel the update disrupted the balance that made the app engaging without needing a subscription. As a regular free user, I find it concerning that the changes seem to push us towards upgrading. I hope the developers reconsider some of these restrictions and work on a more inclusive solution that doesn’t compromise the user experience for those not willing to pay.

i cant beleive duolingo’s new update ruinning everything for free users, its so frustrating with rough ads and limits. i might end up switchin to another app if this doesnt get fixed.

Hey everyone, I totally get feeling a bit let down by the new Duolingo update. I mean, it’s hard when something you really enjoy suddenly seems to be pushing you towards paying up. I find myself wondering if this is just a temporary phase while they figure things out, or if there’s a bigger plan behind this shift. It’s a bit of a shock after all those streaks and fun lessons, right? I’m curious – have any of you found some workarounds or are considering exploring another platform for your language learning journey? Let’s chat about what our options might be!
