Can the CFA be valuable without a bachelor's degree?

I’m exploring whether the CFA charter holds weight with employers even without a bachelor’s degree. Any insights from finance professionals would be great.

Hey Owen_Galaxy!

That’s a really interesting question about the CFA. I’m curious - what got you interested in pursuing the CFA without a bachelor’s degree?

From what I understand, the CFA is super challenging even for people with finance degrees. Have you looked into the exam requirements? I think there might be some education prerequisites, but I’m not 100% sure.

I’d love to hear more about your background and career goals. Are you currently working in finance or looking to break in? Maybe there are other certifications or paths that could work well for your situation too.

What do you think would be the biggest hurdle in going for the CFA without a degree? I’m really intrigued by your perspective on this!

yo owen, CFA’s tough without a degree man. most companies want that bachelor’s first. but if ur a finance whiz with killer experience, it might work. have u considered online degrees? could do that while working towards CFA. just my 2 cents bro, good luck!

While the CFA is highly regarded in finance, pursuing it without a bachelor’s degree is challenging. Most employers view the CFA as a complement to formal education, not a substitute. The CFA Institute actually requires candidates to have a bachelor’s degree or be in the final year of their program to register for the Level I exam.

That said, exceptional circumstances exist. If you have significant work experience in finance and can demonstrate strong analytical skills, some employers might value the CFA charter even without a degree. However, this is the exception rather than the rule.

My advice would be to consider completing a bachelor’s degree if possible, even part-time or online, while gaining relevant work experience. This combination, along with progress towards the CFA, would significantly enhance your employability in the finance sector.
