Inspired by starting at 21, I notice that candidates pursue the CFA at various stages. What age did you achieve each exam level? Any recommendations on the best time to start?
i did my level 1 at age 28, and level 2 at 31. honestly, it’s more about when u have time and focus rather than a magic age. start when your schedule allows for deep study rather than pushing early
I completed my Level I examination at age 25, and I was able to progress to Level II by age 28. My journey was influenced by working full-time and gaining some real-world experience prior to embarking on such a demanding commitment. I found that having a practical understanding of finance alongside your studies provides both context and motivation to push through the intense topics. It may be more beneficial to align your CFA exam schedule with your professional growth rather than strictly focusing on a particular age.
Hey folks, just chiming in here! I ended up taking Level 1 at 27 and moved to Level 2 when I was around 30. My journey wasn’t exactly traditional – my work in corporate finance really opened my eyes to many of the concepts early on, and I felt that context made a huge difference in how I studied. I found balancing study time with work life really improved my focus on what mattered most during exam prep. Did anyone else feel that having some hands-on experience before diving into the CFA curriculum helped ease the pressure? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on blending professional growth with exam preparation! ![]()
