Hey folks,
I’m in a bit of a pickle and could use some advice. I finished my B.Tech from NIT Kurukshetra in May 2024 but haven’t landed a job yet. Now I’m thinking about taking the CAT 2025 and also registering for the CFA Level 1 exam in November 2025.
Here’s my thought process:
- The CFA could help explain my gap year
- It might make my profile more finance-oriented for B-schools
I’m considering the November attempt instead of February 2026 because:
- Results would come before B-school interviews wrap up
- It could give me an edge for summer internships if I clear Level 2 by then
But I’m not sure if I’m biting off more than I can chew. I don’t have a finance background, and I’ll be prepping for CAT at the same time.
Am I crazy for thinking about this? Should I go for it or rethink my plan? Any input would be really helpful!
I’ve been in a similar boat, and I can tell you it’s a challenging path but potentially rewarding. Balancing CAT and CFA prep simultaneously is no small feat, especially without a finance background. However, your strategy has merit.
The CFA can indeed add weight to your profile for B-schools and help explain the gap year productively. The November timing for CFA Level 1 is smart, aligning well with B-school admissions cycles.
That said, it’s crucial to be realistic about the workload. Both exams demand significant time and effort. Consider starting with intensive CAT prep, then gradually incorporating CFA studies. This approach might help you gauge if you can handle both without compromising performance.
Remember, quality over quantity. A stellar CAT score might serve you better than spreading yourself too thin. Assess your progress regularly and be prepared to adjust your plan if needed. Good luck with your endeavors!
Hey there ExploringStars!
Wow, that’s quite a plan you’ve got there! I gotta say, I’m impressed by your ambition. Have you considered how this might impact your mental health though?
I’m super curious - what sparked your interest in finance? It’s a big leap from B.Tech to CFA, so there must be an interesting story there!
You know, I’ve heard the CFA is pretty intense. Do you have any study buddies or mentors who’ve been through it before? Having someone to bounce ideas off could be really helpful.
And speaking of help, have you looked into any online communities or study groups for CAT prep? Might be a good way to stay motivated and get some tips from others in the same boat.
Just thinking out loud here, but have you considered reaching out to any alumni from your college who’ve gone down a similar path? They might have some valuable insights.
Whatever you decide, I’m rooting for you! Keep us posted on how it goes, yeah?
hey exploringStars, I get ur situation. combining CAT and CFA is tough but doable. just be ready for intense studying. the CFA could def boost ur profile for b-schools and internships. but dont burn urself out. maybe focus on CAT first, then tackle CFA if u feel up to it. good luck mate!
